On October 28, 2024, Maker Space invited Lahang Lowsing (principal of Zhuofeng Elementary School, Hualien County) to conduct a workshop on 3D Printing Jew’s harp.
In just three hours, the workshop provided a comprehensive exploration of innovative technologies applied in traditional cultural contexts.
The course began with an overview of different forms of Jew’s harp from various continents, discussing their significance in Taiwan’s indigenous culture to establish students’ foundational knowledge of this traditional instrument. This was followed by hands-on experience in 3D modeling and assembling the models, guiding students to create their own mouth harps.
Lahang Lowsing emphasized, “The introduction of innovative technology is just the first step in understanding culture.” The advancement of technology can lower the barriers to manufacturing Jew’s harp, significantly reducing production time and labor costs, which undoubtedly supports the promotion of traditional culture. He hopes that this workshop will inspire more participants to actively explore the meanings behind various traditional cultural products.
The workshop concluded with the teacher guiding students in playing the Jew’s harp they had created, allowing them to experience the results of integrating technology with tradition.
